Tavie is French for “your life”. This name is a direct link to the mission of the project: to give perspective to thousands of Touareg women in the north of Niger, to contribute substantially to the people’s economic independence and to increase their standard of living. Tavie wants to halt the vicious circle the people of Niger currently find themselves in.
The products are made by 45 village cooperatives within an 80 km / 50 mile radius of the famous Sahara city of Agadez. Together, over 3000 women and 500 men have joined these cooperatives.
When you buy a Tavie product you contribute to better living conditions for the numerous Touareg families in northern Niger.
Fair Trade
The craftsmen and women are paid a Fair Trade price for their products. The Fair Trade concept is the foundation that the entire Tavie project is based on. Fair Trade creates respect for a durable trade, doing justice to people as well as the environment. The product prices are based on living costs such as food, clothing and education and form the basis for the calculation of the cost price.
The Tavie participants try to achieve continuity in sales by maintaining a qualitative and contemporary product. The quality of their craftsmanship is further enhanced by product development. New product design is passed on to the Nigerien people through education and support.
